Unveiled in 2002, AmericanPhotojournalist is a resource for photojournalists, by photojournalists. It offers news, features, information and portfolios from real working photojournalists. Photo Editors may find our site to be a valuable resource by quickly locating photographers in obscure places. The site is maintained by members, who regularly contribute material which further contributes to its success. The founders and staff of American-Photojournalist are profiled below. A Minnesota native, lives in Virginia Beach and shoots freelance for the Virginian Pilot, Associated Press, Hampton Roads Monthly and other local and national publications.

A Navy photojournalist, he is the two time Military Photographer of the Year (1998 and 1999) and the two time DoD Print Journalist of the Year (1995 and 1999).

He has attended the Pulitzer Prize-winning Eddie Adams workshop and was selected to join other top photojournalist from around the world in shooting the "Day in the life of the Military" coffee table book.

Bob Houlihan is the Deputy Director of Photography at The Washington Times.

Bob studied photojournalism at Syracuse University's Newhouse School of Journalism.

Before joining the Times, Houlihan spent ten years traveling the world as a Navy photojournalist and shot freelance in San Diego and Washington, D.C.

Jim is a photojournalist for the international news agency Agence France
Presse(AFP) based in Washington, DC. He travels quite extensively with the US President as par of the White House Travel Pool and covers news, sports and entertainment throughout the world.

He began his photography career in 1993 with the US Navy, and travelled the
world taking pictures.

Jim was hired in 2001 for AFP in Washington, D.C., before being sent to cover the second Gulf War in Iraq. Upon leaving Iraq, he transferred to London for two years and then returned to Washington, DC, where he now provides coverage as part of the White House Travel Pool.

He studied Photojournalism at Syracuse University and has been published in
numerous periodicals throughout the world.

Tom is a veteran Navy Photographer with more than 24 years of camera and production experience. His images have been seen in a variety of media publications, both in print and the web.

His true passion lies in teaching photography and in aerial work. In addition to photography, the self admitted "computer geek" has earned a degree in Information Systems.

Currently he works as the photo editor of a small local newspaper and serves as the webmaster for American Photo Journalist.
