Rock-'n'-Roll Photography Legend, Lynn Goldsmith, and NikonNet Launch The 'PhotoDiary' Website (07-30-2003)
MELVILLE, N.Y., July 25 /PRNewswire/ -- Sex, drugs and rock 'n' roll! Sure
it's a cliche, but few have captured more of rock, pop, and funk music's
essence than celebrated photographer Lynn Goldsmith, whose insights and images
are the focus of PhotoDiary, a new site in Nikon's Legends Behind the Lens
series. The site features Lynn's book PhotoDiary, which takes you behind the
scenes with her stories about the photo sessions and personal experiences with
such music legends as Bob Dylan, Miles Davis, Kiss, and Bruce Springsteen to
lesser-known but still influential performers such as Wendy O. Williams, Tom
Waits and Patti Smith. Lynn explains how her journey with Nikon cameras taught
her various lessons about not only being a professional photographer but about
how photography is a way of discovering who you are. PhotoDiary is no longer
available in stores, however Nikon will have signed copies available for sale
in their Signature Series section of http://www.nikonmall.com.

In addition, Nikon presents a multimedia section to the site where one can
view video clips of Lynn's television interviews by Bill O'Reilly or Robin
Leach. Lynn speaks openly and honestly about her life both documenting and
creating images of the musicians who have influenced so many. The multimedia
section also features never-before-seen clips of Lynn shooting and
interviewing members of the rock band The Police as well as excerpts and
rarely viewed images from books currently in production. Visitors to the site
are offered the opportunity to contribute their thoughts to these new books as
well.

NikonNet strives to honor the works of renowned photographers," said Tracy
Mack-Jackson, Senior Manager of Internet Development and Programs at Nikon
Inc. "Lynn Goldsmith has had a long and lustrous career of photographing
celebrities and rock musicians, both household names and rising stars. Yet, in
every portrait, she is able to capture something intimate or personal in the
performer. That's why Lynn Goldsmith, who has shot some of music's most
notable icons, is herself a legend in rock photography."

An award-winning portrait photographer whose work has appeared on the
covers of Rolling Stone, Newsweek, People, Time, Sports Illustrated, to name a
few, Lynn Goldsmith photographed some of the most influential people in
entertainment, sports, and politics of the past 30 years, including Muhammad
Ali, Milton Berle and Hillary Clinton. Lynn has contributed to over 50 books
and has published eight of her own, one of which hit The New York Times Best
Seller list.

As someone who believed in having photographers work together, she founded
LGI Photo agency in 1976, one of the first agencies specializing in celebrity
portraiture for editorial usage. The agency was sold in 1997 so that Lynn
could more fully concentrate on her photography.
